Our Beautiful Earth

Welcome to April!! We celebrate our beautiful earth. Every twenty-second
day of April since 1970, the world has celebrated Earth Day. This day mobilized
millions of people to show care and concern about our precious planet. Within 20
years of the first Earth Day, the large movement morphed into a global
phenomenon.
We look at this internationally celebrated event but let’s look at one of the
major contributors and some of the major advancements resulting directly from
this movement. Former Governor and United States Senator Gaylord Nelson of
Wisconsin is celebrated and credited as the founder of Earth Day. He was
internationally known for his views on the environment. His efforts elevated the
public consciousness when it came to preserving our earth and it is most precious
natural resources. The same industrial revolution responsible for improving the
economic quality of life and standard of living has also had other costs as well.
This movement led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency
(known as the EPA) and its subsequent environmental laws-National
Environmental Education Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the Clean
Air Act, the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and the Federal Insecticide,
Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act.
Our planet gives us everything you need and we want to keep it strong for
our future generation. Continual awareness will make our world stronger and more
resilient in the years to come.
