In the United States and across the globe, we remember Patriot Day.
Thousands of lives were lost on September 11 th 2001. This series of events
changed our world forever. The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center (one
of the world’s major financial hubs) in New York City and The Pentagon (the major
headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense) in Virginia totally refined liberty,
freedom and most of all life.
There are thousands of people who left their home that day not knowing
that it would be their last. There are thousands of secondary losses of life in
addition to the initial attack. Let’s not forget about the people who lost their lives
on United Airlines Flight 93 when the plane fatally crashed in Pennsylvania.
The first plane struck the World Trade Center at 8:46am Eastern Standard
Time on this day on 2001. The time 8:46am on this day will always have special
meaning. Today, Americans are usually asked to honor the dead with a moment
of silence. The U.S. Congress designated September 11 th as Patriot Day on
December 18 th 2001 through Public Law 107-89 and as the National Day of Service
and Remembrance through Public 111-13 on April 21, 2009.
It is important to remember this observance because the aftermath
resulting in a lot of grief and despair for the nation and the world. It is equally
important to remember the hope, unity and resolve that lifted us as nation’s and
the world’s citizens. This stands as a reminder that life is precious and humanity
can be reminded of this each observance.
